Archbishop Kaziimba Joins Kitgum Clean-Up, Calls on Every Ugandan to Make Cleanliness a Family Responsibility
Archbishop Kaziimba Joins Kitgum Residents for National Cleaning Day KITGUM MUNICIPALITY — Residents of Kitgum Municipality today joined leaders and other members of the community to mark the National Cleaning Day, held on the last Saturday of every month. The cleaning exercise was attended by His Grace the Most Rev. Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, who joined the people of Kitgum in cleaning their community. Speaking during the exercise, Archbishop Kaziimba called on Ugandans to make cleanliness part of their daily life. He said keeping homes, workplaces, public places, and bodies clean is important for healthy and peaceful communities. The Archbishop also spoke about the importance of cleanliness in homes. He encouraged both men and women to keep themselves and their homes clean, saying a clean home can help create peace, respect, and good relationships among family members. The Minister of State for Environment, Hon. Beatrice Atim Anywar, also urged Ugandans to take National Cleaning Day seriously. She called on communities to keep their surroundings clean and to continue with the practice every day, rather than waiting for the last Saturday of the month. The exercise brought together leaders, market vendors, and residents of Kitgum Municipality. Among those who took part were Hon. Beatrice Akori, Minister for Northern Uganda; Hon. Otober, MP for Aruu North; Tonny Blair Toolit, LV Kitgum; His Worship Okwera Richard Ojara, Mayor of Kitgum; and Mr. Segawa Jimmy Ebil, RDC Kitgum. A clean community is a healthy community. Let every person play their part in keeping Kitgum clean every day.

BOU Governor Warns Heavy Domestic Borrowing Could Push Up Interest Rates
Bank of Uganda Governor Dr Michael Atingi-Ego has warned against excessive domestic borrowing, which he said could push up interest rates and crowd out private-sector credit. Appearing before Parliament's Committee on Budget chaired by Hon Gabriel Okumu, Dr Atingi-Ego said the domestic market can absorb the planned Shs12.7 trillion borrowing, but warned against exceeding the projected level. He said private-sector credit grew 16.1 percent year-on-year to June 2026. Hon. Okumu on his side warned that the budget and the national economy committees of Parliament should do their best to discourage heavy borrowing. Dr Atingi-Ego called for Uganda's fiscal debt path to be revisited, particularly for FY2026/27, saying the Charter's projections could become unattainable if its debt base is inconsistent with current figures. The Central Bank officials said risks to the debt path should be assessed every year, while the Charter should require annual reporting on Government's domestic financing strategy and its impact on private-sector credit.
