Arsenal title hopes hit in shock defeat by West Ham
By Reurters Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes suffered a hammer blow as Jarrod Bowen’s goal just before halftime gave London rivals West Ham United a surprise 1-0 away victory on Saturday. Bowen headed in from close range in the 44th minute and Arsenal’s feeble attack, missing a host of injured forwards, never looked like salvaging anything as they suffered their first home league defeat of the season. Arsenal barely troubled visiting keeper Alphonse Areola, managing two shots on target, and played the last 20 minutes with 10 men after substitute Myles Lewis-Skelly was red-carded for hauling down Mohammed Kudus. Mikel Arteta’s second-placed side have 53 points from 26 games, eight behind leaders Liverpool who face champions Manchester City away on […]

Botswana flash floods kill seven, displace thousands
By Reuters Flash floods across Botswana have killed seven people including three children and uprooted thousands after days of heavy rains, President Duma Boko said on Saturday. Authorities have temporarily shut schools and blocked roads following more than a week of downpours. “We will continue to work in the short term to mitigate further losses,” Boko said in a televised address as over 1,700 people were evacuated from flood-stricken areas. In the capital Gabarone, where the local dam was overflowing, cars were washed away and properties waterlogged as emergency workers braced for more rain in coming days. Disaster management officials suggested that inadequate drainage in urban areas may have contributed to water building up in some of the worst hit […]

Stones could be facing surgery in another injury blow to Man City
By Reuters Manchester City centre back John Stones could be facing surgery and a long layoff, said coach Pep Guardiola, who reiterated his belief on Friday that the crowded game schedule is to blame for mounting injuries. Guardiola added that the status of leading scorer Erling Haaland is to be determined in potentially another big injury blow ahead of their top-flight clash with Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday. Stones limped off the pitch with a quadriceps injury in the first half of Wednesday’s loss to Real Madrid, which eliminated them from the Champions League. Haaland was sidelined with a knee injury suffered in the 4-0 win over Newcastle United on February 15. “(Stones) is injured,” Guardiola said. “It’s a […]

DPP speaks out on Besigye’s case
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Justice Jane Frances Abodo, has disputed claims that the General Court Martial failed to transfer Dr. Kizza Besigye’s treason case file. Instead, the DPP charged Besigye and two others with new treason charges. According to Jackline Okui, spokesperson for the DPP, the office received Besigye’s case file on February 11, 2025, and, in conjunction with the police, launched investigations that uncovered substantial evidence to support charges of treason and misprision of treason. Okui clarified that Besigye’s file was the only one received from the General Court Martial, despite the Supreme Court’s ruling on January 31 that civilians should not be tried in military courts. That ruling ordered the transfer of such cases to the […]
