Court upholds 50-year sentence for murder
A man named Muhangi Obed has been ordered to serve a 50-year prison sentence for murdering his friend’s wife, Arinaitwe Jaduresi, in June 2010. Muhangi had convinced Arinaitwe’s husband, Yoram Bwozi, to allow him to take her to a traditional healer in Mbarara for treatment of a stomach ailment. However, Muhangi’s true intentions were sinister, and he ultimately killed her. Muhangi’s sentence was handed down by High Court Judge David Matovu in 2014, but he appealed, claiming the sentence was excessive. Three Court of Appeal Justices, Eva Luswata, Oscar Kihika, and Dr. Asa Mugenyi, unanimously dismissed his appeal, citing a lack of merit and ordering him to continue serving his 50-year jail sentence. According to court records, Muhangi asked Bwozi […] The post Court upholds 50-year sentence for murder first appeared on 93.3 KFM.

Bogere plans to hold longer in firing chamber
By Fred Mwambu The StarTimes Uganda Premier League may be starting its seventh match day today but the sacking season is already in full swing. Six coaches have already faced the axe and Wednesday, veteran Steven Bogere will become the newest face on the touchline as his Lugazi face off table-leaders Nec. Bogere was appointed on a one-year contract to replace sacked Sadiq Ssempigi on Sunday, with high expectations that he could turn things around and add a brick to their planned long-term project. However, his tenure largely depends on short-term results based on the club’s recent track record. Nicknamed ‘The Leaders”, Lugazi has been handled by five different coaches since October last year, signalling potential instability that Bogere will need […] The post Bogere plans to hold longer in firing chamber first appeared on 93.3 KFM.

Sudanese need protection, but conditions not right for UN force, says Guterres
BY REUTERS United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appealed to the Security Council on Monday for its support to help protect civilians in war-torn Sudan, but said conditions are not right for deployment of a U.N. force. “The people of Sudan are living through a nightmare of violence — with thousands of civilians killed, and countless others facing unspeakable atrocities, including widespread rape and sexual assaults,” Guterres told the 15-member council. War erupted in mid-April 2023 from a power struggle between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces ahead of a planned transition to civilian rule, and triggered the world’s largest displacement crisis. “Sudan is, once again, rapidly becoming a nightmare of mass ethnic violence,” Guterres said, referring to […] The post Sudanese need protection, but conditions not right for UN force, says Guterres first appeared on 93.3 KFM.

They cite the decline of the cotton, tobacco, and tea markets as evidence of past failures.
