How filmmakers can boost local economy
Film is a sensory medium that the viewer fully immerses themselves in. As they follow the characters who capture their imagination subliminally, they absorb other elements of Uganda’s culture, heritage, colours and food that a film director cleverly crafts within the story as subtext. Agreeably, filmmaker James King Bagyenzi observes that this results in a […] The post How filmmakers can boost local economy first appeared on Sqoop - Get Uganda entertainment news, celebrity gossip, videos and photos.

Trump and Harris make final pitch in Pennsylvania on eve of historic US vote
BY REUTERS Donald Trump and Kamala Harris both predicted victory as they campaigned across Pennsylvania on Monday in the final, frantic day of an exceptionally close U.S. presidential election. The campaign has seen head-spinning twists: two assassination attempts and a felony conviction for Republican former President Trump, and Democratic Vice President Harris’ surprise elevation to the top of the ticket after President Joe Biden, 81, dropped his reelection bid under pressure from his own party. More than $2.6 billion has been spent to sway voters’ minds since March, according to AdImpact, an analytics firm. Nevertheless, opinion polls show Trump, 78, and Harris, 60, virtually even. The winner may not be known for days after Tuesday’s vote, though Trump has already […] The post Trump and Harris make final pitch in Pennsylvania on eve of historic US vote first appeared on 93.3 KFM.

Ugandans urged to legalise adoptions
Ugandans have been urged to obtain court adoption orders to legalize their adoptions. Barbara Mutagubya, the executive director of Sanyu Babies Home, said that the majority of foster parents lack legal documents to support their adoptions. She noted that this creates insecurity for the adopted children, who may face eviction and denial of inheritance rights in the event of their foster parents’ death. “It becomes very difficult for them to finalize adoption in Uganda when it comes to the legal fees that lawyers always charge. We are saying, that there be a one-stop-center, let there be support from government that if any Ugandan parent wants to foster and eventually adopt the child, they can go to the Chief Magistrates Court. Dollar limps into US Election Day as ‘Trump trades’ unwind
BY REUTERS The dollar softened on Tuesday as traders squared positions on the day of the U.S. presidential election, after recent polls dented some market bets on a victory for Republican Donald Trump. Democrat Kamala Harris has also experienced improving odds on election gambling sites and had a slight lead on PredictIt overnight, although Polymarket continued to show Trump as favourite. In recent weeks, financial markets and some betting platforms had leaned strongly in favour of a win for Trump, whose tariff and immigration policies are considered inflationary by analysts, leading to a rise in U.S. Treasury yields and gains for the dollar. Overnight, though, the U.S. currency slumped as much as 0.76% against the euro to a three-week trough […] The post Dollar limps into US Election Day as ‘Trump trades’ unwind first appeared on 93.3 KFM.

Court delays Katanga trial again
The High Court in Kampala has once again delayed the hearing of the trial in the murder case of businessman Henry Katanga. The 10th prosecution witness failed to appear in court on Tuesday. Earlier in October 2024, the prosecution requested a two-week break to prepare additional witnesses. The prosecution team, led by Chief State Attorney Jonathan Muwaganya apologized to Justice Isaac Muwata, explaining that their expected witness had traveled upcountry over the weekend and arrived late in Kampala, only to find the police’s exhibit store closed. Muwaganya stated that, under these circumstances, the prosecution was unable to proceed with the hearing and requested an adjournment until Wednesday, November 6, 2024. The case involves Molly Katanga, and her two daughters Martha […] The post Court delays Katanga trial again first appeared on 93.3 KFM.
