Bugweri road crash claims one
By Abubaker Kirunda At least one person is confirmed to have died while another has been critically injured following a road crash that occurred on Monday morning in Bugweri District. The crash happened in Idudi Town Council along the Bugweri-Bugiri road. Busoga East police spokesperson Michael Kafayo says the road crash involved an Isuzu Elf Truck registration No UAF 788M and a Motorcycle registration No UFT 468Y. Michael Kafayo explains that according to preliminary investigations, the truck driver made an abrupt turn off from the road coming from Bugiri, knocking two people who were travelling on a motorcycle. 43-year Kabojja Junior School teacher gets 4 years in jail for indecently assaulting pupil
By Ruth Anderah 43-year old Kabojja Junior School teacher, Godfrey Muwumuza has been sentenced to 4 years and 6 months imprisonment for indecently assaulting a P.7 pupil. This is after Muwumuza, a resident of Gayaza-Kasangati in Wakiso District, pleaded guilty under a plea bargain agreement between him, prosecution and the victim’s parents. Prosecution led by Joan Keko and Ivan Kyazze also tendered before Court WhatsApp messages between the victim and his mother on transit between Mbarara and Kampala. Court heard that the school had organised a trip to western Uganda for P7 pupils, Nuwumuza was among the teachers who escorted them. Shartis, daughter of former Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kuteesa and Sodo were both nominated last week to compete for the party parliamentary flag in Sembabule. Anti-Corruption CSOs task government on witness protection law
By Mike Sebalu Anti- Corruption Civil Society Organizations in Uganda have asked the government to prioritize the establishment of the witness protection law in the new 5 year National Anti-Corruption Strategy. The government is currently assessing the current strategy which ended with the 2023/2024 financial year. The plan provides a framework for implementing the ZTCP, which aims at establishing anti-corruption institutions, preventing corruption, encouraging public participation, fostering integrity and promoting individual commitment. It also guides stakeholders in responding to corruption according to the Zero Tolerance to Corruption Policy.
