MBAGADHI FREDERICK NKAYI: Nakasongola Proposal for New Capital City Not Far-Fetched
As the debate on relocating Uganda's capital gains momentum in the public domain, particularly in the print media, the proposal deserves an informative and critical analysis. From the onset, Kampala has been at the heart of Uganda's political, economic and social life for generations. However, as the city continues to expand and the concentration of national institutions, businesses and people places increasing pressure on its infrastructure, Uganda must begin thinking beyond its current administrative geography. The question is no longer simply how to manage Kampala better, but whether the country should plan for a new administrative capital capable of meeting

One Day, Corruption Itself Will Report Ugandans to Police
By Wilfred Arinda Nshekantebirwe There will come a day, very soon, when Corruption will walk into Central Police Station and say: Afande, please arrest these Ugandans. They are spoiling my name. Because what we do in Uganda is no longer corruption. In his book Slow Poison, Professor Mahmood Mamdani argues that corruption in Uganda has become so deep-rooted that our current vocabulary can no longer fully capture its scale. I entirely agree with his assessment; the crisis has evolved past standard definitions. Because corruption has standards. Corruption has shame. Corruption steals quietly. What we do in Uganda is daylight robbery.

By Wilfred Arinda Nshekantebirwe On Sunday afternoon, the Minister for Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Hon Henry Musasizi stood at Ikumba Health Centre III in Rubanda District and said something that most politicians in Uganda rarely say, and mean. He told the gathering assembled at Ikumba Health Centre III to receive him, that he did not want flowers. He did not want banana plants . He did not want the ceremonial welcomes and the elaborate gestures of honour that routinely accompany a Ministers visit to his home district. He wanted something harder to give and far more valuable to receive.

BOU Governor Warns Heavy Domestic Borrowing Could Push Up Interest Rates
Bank of Uganda Governor Dr Michael Atingi-Ego has warned against excessive domestic borrowing, which he said could push up interest rates and crowd out private-sector credit. Appearing before Parliament's Committee on Budget chaired by Hon Gabriel Okumu, Dr Atingi-Ego said the domestic market can absorb the planned Shs12.7 trillion borrowing, but warned against exceeding the projected level. He said private-sector credit grew 16.1 percent year-on-year to June 2026. Hon. Okumu on his side warned that the budget and the national economy committees of Parliament should do their best to discourage heavy borrowing. Dr Atingi-Ego called for Uganda's fiscal debt path to be revisited, particularly for FY2026/27, saying the Charter's projections could become unattainable if its debt base is inconsistent with current figures. The Central Bank officials said risks to the debt path should be assessed every year, while the Charter should require annual reporting on Government's domestic financing strategy and its impact on private-sector credit.
