Man Utd boss Ten Hag doesn’t want Ratcliffe vote of confidence
By AFP Erik ten Hag says he does not want a public vote of confidence from Jim Ratcliffe as speculation mounts over the Manchester United manager’s future. Ratcliffe is in control of United’s football operations after recently purchasing a 25 percent stage in the club from owners the Glazer family. The British billionaire is conducting an intensive review of Ten Hag’s two-season reign, with reports suggesting former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is a candidate to replace the Dutchman at Old Trafford. UN peacekeepers launch pullout from war-torn east DR Congo
By AFP The United Nations was to kick off Wednesday the withdrawal of MONUSCO peacekeeping forces from the Democratic Republic of Congo by handing over a first UN base to national police. The DRC demanded the withdrawal despite UN concerns about rampant violence in the east of the country. Kinshasa considers the UN force to be ineffective in protecting civilians from the armed groups and militias that have plagued the east of the vast country for three decades. The UN Security Council voted in December to accede to Kinshasa’s demand for a gradual pullout by the MONUSCO mission, which arrived in 1999. The UN force currently fields around 13,500 soldiers and 2,000 police across the three eastern provinces of Ituri, […]

Finance ministry cautions Parliament on motor third-party funds
The Ministry of Finance has cautioned Parliament against a proposal to allocate all money collected from motor third-party insurance to the Ministry of Health for treating road crash victims. The Ministry argues that creating separate funds within the government would be difficult to manage. The call comes from Henry Musasizi, Minister of State for Finance, while appearing before the Health Committee. He responded to a proposal by committee chairperson Charles Ayume, who advocated for directing all motor third-party insurance collections towards treating road crash victims. The Minister informed the Committee that the total collections from motor third-party insurance in the 2022/23 financial year alone amounted to Shs32 billion. This figure includes stamp duty (Shs12 billion) and VAT (Shs3 billion). Money […]
